SAR11bn allocation to widen road network in KSA


The 2013 national budget has allocated SR 11 billion for 223 new road projects across the Kingdom, said Transport Minister Jabara Al-Seraisry yesterday.

“The total length of roads under the new projects will be 3,708 km,” he said, adding that the ministry would conduct studies and make designs for 1,523 km roads during this year.

Riyadh will have new road projects valued at SR 1.48 billion, followed by Makkah SR 1.2 billion, Madinah SR1 billion, Qassim SR 1 billion and Eastern Province SR 1 billion.

“There will be 22 road projects in the Asir region,” the minister said, adding that they would cost SR 1.1 billion.

Tabuk will have eight projects valued at SR 744 million, Hail 13 projects worth SR 660 million, and Northern Border Province 11 projects worth SR 324 million. The southern province of Jazan will have projects worth SR 792 million, Najran SR 430 million, Baha SR 644 million and Al-Jouf SR 404 million, Al-Seraisry said
